It really highlights the way that zenkit can
be used in the way that you work rather than imposing a structure. //

I organize my notebooks roughly into a single root, one level of chapters then
further to sections. I’ve standardized on always connecting pointing towards the
root note. I try not to have any connection originating from a node closer to
the root to a node closer to a leaf. //

The means that there’s no table of contents and it’s very common for a chapter
to be an empty page, with all of the content linked via the “Mentioned In”
section. //

In this scenario, this feature lets me see further up the tree towards the root
by one level //

This scheme works for me because I do a lot of documenting and organizing for
project management.

However — I’ve also been looking at moving from a different tool that I use for
organizing information such as techinical notes, etc. //

Right now I use a specialized tool that is really good at connecting things in the same way that
you think about them. //

In that scenario, my tree would represent exploration rather than collection. I
would start at a root node and work outward. For example – I’ve been wondering
how to organize my notes when I’m working through something such as debugging or
root cause analysis.

Using the tree I could keep extending outward with each iteration and then use
this ctrl+click feature to reel in my work to the latest iteration.

When you ctrl+click on a note, it visually pulls in the first order connections out from where you. It shows you the 2nd order connection as a note. The first order connections that were pulled in are shown as labels on the connection to the 2nd order connection.

The direction of the arrows are important. This feature lets you see one connection further _in the direction of your connection_.

Essentially this reels in the connections, collapsing all the connections by one with each invocation

Original
(one) —> (two) –> (three) —> (four)
ctrl+click
(one) -[label: two]-> (three)
ctrl+click
(one) -[label: three) -> (four)

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out

Did you manage to get it all figured out, or do you still need some assistance?

Ok – so I forgot that hypernotes comes with a tutorial book.

“To collapse notes (i.e. to see connections to other notes further away) you can select a note and use M or Ctrl+Click. Hold Shift while using this shortcut to un-collapse them.”

Like
() ctrl+left mouse click seems to do something but I’m not sure what. ???
() shift + left mouse click brings up the page you clicked as a panel on the right.
() Selecting a node and then clicking on the small bubble/circle that appears allows you to add/search for a page
